His Plans > My Plans
His Plans > My Plans
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
My plans are better than yours,”
I carelessly say to the Lord.
“I’ve scheduled my days,
I’m set in my ways.
Please, won’t you get on board?”
I balk, I complain, I scratch out.
I pencil in what I imagine should be.
My eyes see a glimpse
Of each problem—I wince
At the bewildering road before me.
What I dream—it tends to unravel
Like a loose thread unfastening a seam.
Then I throw a fit
And threaten to quit.
Oh Lord, can my plans be redeemed?
“My plans are better than yours,”
The Lord gently responds to me.
“I know what’s to come—
My words can’t be undone.
It’s my way that will set you free.”
I finally surrender my pen
To the one who created the ink.
For he sees it all—
And to him I call
When I’m teetering close to the brink.
For as the rain and the snow
Always fall from the sky,
Helping farmers to sow,
Lovely flowers to grow,
God will always be my supply.
My plans still change on a whim,
Even when I don’t want them to.
But I trust my God’s ways
To lead me each day,
For he has always seen me through.
Word before World God’s eternity-focused will and ways are better than our short-sighted whims and plans.
